Trump Holds Video Games Violence Meeting

오늘은 총기사건과 관련한 이야기입니다. 우리나라도 군부대에서 가끔씩 총기사건이 발생합니다. 하지만 미국은 훨씬 빈번하죠. 개인적으로는 이 문제의 본질은 미디어의 영향보다는 총기보유에 있다고 봅니다. 총을 가지고 있기에 쏘는 것이지요. 하지만 미국정부는 많은 총기회사들과 이해관계가 얽힌 거래를 하고 있는 것으로 알고있습니다. 그리고 이미 보급된 시민들에게 총기소지를 금지하는 것이 매우 어려울 것입니다. 애초에 총기소지를 금지했어야 했는데 지금 총기소지를 금지하지는 못하니 엉뚱하게 게임이나 영화를 들쑤시는것 같네요. 오바마도 총기규제는 어떻게 못했는데 트럼프라고 할 수 있을까요.. 총기문제는 미국내에서 가장 큰 골치거리중에 하나인 것 같습니다. 총기는 순간적 충동에의해 사람을 아주 쉽게 죽일 수 있죠. 한발은 어려울지 몰라도 두발은 처음 한 발보다는 어렵지 않을 것 입니다. 미국내에서 벌어지는 교내 총기 사건이 딴 한발만 쏘고 끝나지 않는걸 보면 알수있죠. 미국이 이 총기사건을 해결할수있는 방법은 총기소지를 금지하고 유통을 금지 하는 것 입니다. 하지만 과연 가능할까요? 자세히는 모르지만 여기에 얽힌 이해관계가 아주 많은 것으로 알고있습니다. 미국의 큰 숙제입니다.

Trump Holds Video Games Violence Meeting

U.S. President Donald J. Trump has met with video game company representatives and games critics to discuss potential links between electronic games and real-life violence.

도널드 트럼프 대통령이 비디오게임회사 대표들 및 게임 비평가들과 비디오게임과 현실범죄와의  영향성에 대하여 토론 하기위해서 만났습니다. 

The hour-long meeting began with attendees watching an edited video of violent scenes taken from games and the president listening to comments afterwards.

한시간 가량의 미팅은 게임에서 폭력적인 장면이  편집된 비디오를 보는것으로 시작했습니다.  그리고 이후 이에 대해 대통령의 의견을 들었습니다.  

The trade association of the U.S. video games industry, The Entertainment Software Association, released a statement after the meeting that said: “We discussed the numerous scientific studies establishing that there is no connection between video games and violence.”

미국의 비디오게임 협회는 미팅이후에 성명을 발표했습니다. “우리는 게임과 폭력은 연관성이 없다는 수 많은 과학적 연구가 발표되었다는 것에 대해서 토론했습니다” 

Meanwhile, Brent Bozell, the president of the conservative Media Research Center, who was also present at the meeting, told The Hill that "Trump was clearly concerned about some of this imagery that you’re seeing in these ultra-violent video games that are being watched by children.”

그 동안,또 다른 참석자인 미디어보호연구센터의 대표 브랜트 보젤은 “트럼프대통령은 극도로 폭력적인 비디오게임을 아이들이 보는 것에 대해서 확실한 우려를 가지고 있다고” Hill 에게 말했습니다.

Bozell told The Verge: “I don’t think there should be any government control over it.”

보젤은 Verge 에게는 “나는 정부가 이것을 통제해야 한다고 생각지 않습니다” 라고 했습니다. 

The White House said the meeting was the first in a series of ongoing discussions to address gun violence.

백악관은 이 회의는 총기범죄를 다루기위한 여러가지 절차중 첫번째 논의라고 말했습니다.

Trump previously spoke about the links of violence in electronic games and movies with real-life actions, during the recent meeting on school safety at the White House, which involved survivors of February’s Florida shooting. He said: “I’m hearing more and more people say the level of violence on video games is really shaping young people’s thoughts.”

트럼프는 최근 백안관에서 열린 지난 2월 플로리다 총기사건의 생존자들과 함께한 학교안전에 관한 회의에서 이미 전자게임와 영화의 폭력성이 현실세계의 행동과 연관이 있다고 말했습니다. 그는 “갈수록 많은 사람들이 비디오게임의 폭력의 수위가 청소년들의 생각을 영향을 미친다고 말하는 것을 듣습니다” 라고 말했습니다. 

Academic debate about whether violent games are linked with real-life violence remains controversial and unclear.

폭력적 게임이 현실세계와의 연관성에 관한 학술적 논의는 여전히 불확실하고 논쟁의 여지가 있습니다.
