Uber's Net Loss Widens to $4.5B for Tumultuous 2017

작년에 우버가 이렇게 많은 사건에 휘말린지 몰랐습니다. 작년에 영국에 있는 동안 쓸일이 있을까 해서 서비스 가입은 해뒀는데 아직 한번도 써보지는 않았습니다. 카쉐어링 서비스중에서는 우리나라서비스인 풀러스를 한번 써봤었는데 굉장히 만족했습니다. 아무튼 우버가 꽤나 고전하고있네요. 미국에서는 선두주자이지만 우라나라를 비롯해 몇몇나라에서 제재를 가하고 있는 것이 이유 일까요.

아니면 그들 내부에 다른 사정이 있는 것 일까요. 소송 건도있지만 섹스스캔들은 내부 문제인데 과연 올해는 잘 해결해나갈지 궁금합니다.

Uber's Net Loss Widens to $4.5B for Tumultuous 2017

2017년 떠들했던 우버의 손실이 45억 달러로 커지다.   

Ride-hailing giant Uber's full-year net loss widened to $4.5 billion in 2017 as the company endured a tumultuous year that included multiple scandals, a lawsuit alleging the theft of trade secrets and the replacement of its CEO.

영업기밀의 횡령 소송에 따른 CEO의 교체등 여러 스캔들로 수모를 겪은 카쉐어링 서비스의 대표주자 우버의 2017년 손실이 45억달러로 커졌습니다. 

The full-year loss grew from $2.8 billion in 2016, a year with results skewed by a gain from the sale of Uber's unprofitable business in China. Uber also said its U.S. ride-hailing market share fell from 82 percent at the start of last year to 70 percent in the fourth quarter. Uber said the share has now stabilized.

2016년의 28억달러 손실에서, 한 해의 결과는 불확실한 중국에서의 사업때문에 일그러졌습니다. 우버는 미국에서의 점유도 사업 초기 82%에서 작년 4분기에는 70%로 줄었다고 말했습니다. 하지만 이 점유관계는 현재 안정화 되었다고 했습니다. 

Gross revenue for the year rose 85 percent over 2016, to $37 billion.

전체 매출은 85% 2016에 비해 85% 370달러로 증가 하였습니다. 

Bookings from fares rose 14 percent to just over $11 billion for the quarter.

한 분기의 예약 요금은 14%, 110억달러로 증가하였습니다. 

While the losses are significant, the results still are positive for Uber with revenue rising and losses falling in three of four quarters in 2017, said Rohit Kulkarni, managing director of research group SharesPost.

손실은 상당한 반면 2017년 3분기부터 손실을 줄고 이익은 늘어났기에 결과는 아직 긍정적이라고 로히트 쿠카르니는 말했습니다. 그는 쉐어스 포스트 연구그룹의 수석 매니저입니다. 

The numbers show that Uber is on a path toward profitability and a sustainable economic model, Kulkarni said.

숫자는 우버는 이윤을 내며 지속가능한 결제모델의 방향으로 가는것을 보여준다고 쿠카르니는 말했습니다. 

Last year was a particularly bad one for Uber with its reputation tarnished by the company's acknowledgement of rampant sexual harassment within its ranks, a yearlong cover-up of a major computer break-in, and the use of duplicitous software to thwart government regulators.

작년 한해는 특별히 좋지 않았습니다. 계급내 섹스 스캔들에 대한 회사의 인정, 주요 시스템에의 해킹은폐. 그리고  정부 당국의 제제에 저지 하기위한 불법 소프트웨어 사용 등으로인해 우버의 명성에 큰 타격을 입었습니다. 

Uber and the self-driving car company Waymo also recently reached a $245 million settlement following a legal battle over allegedly stolen trade secrets. Waymo sued Uber last year, saying that one of its former engineers who later became the head of Uber’s self-driving car project took with him thousands of confidential documents.

우버와 자율주행자동차회사 웨이모는 최근 영업기밀 누출에 대한 법정 소송 합의금으로  2억4천달러를 도출했습니다. 웨이모는 작년에 우버를 고소했습니다. 그들의 제작 엔지니어중 하나가 우버의 자율주행 프로젝트 팀의 리더가 되었으며 수천건의 기밀문서를 가져갔다고 했습니다.
