Rome Sees First Snowfall in 6 Years

올 겨울은 한국에서도 계속 영하 17도 18도를 지속하며  정말 추웠습니다. 제트기류의 이상현상 때문이라는데요. 갈수록 여름은 더워지고 겨울은 추워지는 것 같아요. 진폭이 커지는 거죠. 

유럽에서도 폭설로 인해 도시마비 현상이 생기고 미국 보스턴 지역은 매년 눈 때문에 고통 받고 있는 것 같아요. 지중해의 가장 온화한 지역중 하나인 로마에서도 올 겨울에는 눈이 내렸다고 합니다. 고대 도시이고 인프라를 쉽게 뜯어 고칠 수 있는 동네가 아니기 때문에 이렇게 자연재해에는 도시기능이 취약할 수 밖에 없습니다. 전 눈이나 태풍때문에 학교 한번 쉬어보는게 소원이었는데 우리나라는 뭐 이리 제설/배수 설비가 잘 되어있는거죠? 쳇..

그래도 눈 덮힌 고대 로마를 보는것 꽤나 낭만적일 것 같습니다.

Rome Sees First Snowfall in 6 Years

로마, 6년만에 눈을 보게 되다.

Romans woke up last Monday to see the city and its famous monuments covered in snow for the first time in six years, as icy winds blew from Siberia across Europe.

지난주 월요일, 6년만에 처음으로 로마사람은들 눈으로 덮힌 로마의 유명한 기념물과 도시를 보며 깨어났습니다. 시베리아로 부터 찬바람이 불어와 유럽을 강타했습니다. 

With its mild Mediterranean climate, the capital of Italy rarely sees snow, and when it does, even a few centimeters almost paralyze public transportation and force the closure of schools.

온화한 지중해 기후와 함께, 이탈리아의 수도에서는 눈을 보는 경우가 드뭅니다. 하지만 한번 눈이 내리면, 비록 몇센티미터의 눈이라도 도시의 교통을 마비시키고 학교는 강제 휴교합니다.

Italy's civil protection agency sent in the army to clear snow-clogged streets and called on volunteer corps to help commuters stranded at train stations.

이탈리아 지구 보호대는 눈으로 마비된 도로를 치우기 위해 군대를 보냈고 기차역에서 정상적인 출퇴근을 돕기위해 자원병을 불렀습니다.

Only one runway was operating at Rome's main airport, Fiumicino, and the second airport, Ciampino, was closed overnight to allow workers to clear the runway.

로마의 주요공항인 피우미치노는 하나의 활주로만 운행했고 두번째 공항인 참피노에서는 밤새 운영을 중단하고 근무자들이 눈을 치우도록 했습니다. 

Elsewhere in northern and central Italy, the storm also caused disruption of public transportation and authorities ordered schools closed and many private ones followed suit.

이탈리아 북부아 중앙의 지역에역시 눈으로 인한 교통체증이 발생하고 학교들이 휴교하도록했습니다. 많은 교육시설들이 휴교에 동참했습니다. 

Meanwhile, temperatures in Moscow have dropped to this winter's low despite the approaching spring.

이 와중에, 모스크바에서는 봄이 다가옴에도 이번 겨울 가장 낮은 기온으로 떨어졌습니다. 

Earlier last month, Moscow had been hit by a record snowfall that closed streets all over the city.

지난달 초, 모스크바는 기록적인 폭설로 인해 온도시와 도로들을 덮은 적이 있습니다.

The Meteorological Office said that in the Russian capital the temperature dropped to nearly minus 20 degrees Celsius overnight, the coldest this winter.

기상국은 러시아 수도의 온도가 밤새 -20도 까지 떨어졌고 올겨울 가장 추운 날이었다고 전했습니다.  

Meteorologists are forecasting unusually low temperatures for early March.

기상예보센터는 예년과는 달리 3월초동안 낮은 기온이 지속 될 것이라 했습니다.
