저도 식물이 좋습니다. 집앞 정원을 꾸며보자고 마음먹은 이후로는 빠져들듯이 좋아졌고 집에는 지금 약 60개의 화분이 있습니다. 우리집을 싱그럽게 만들어주는데는 식물만한것이 없고 느리게 자라는 녀석들을 바라보는것도 큰 기쁨입니다. 제 아내도 보태니컬 아트를 배우고 있는데 언젠가는 전시회도 하기를 기대합니다. ㅎㅎ

Botanical artist Carol Malone-Brown is seated, bent forward, concentrating on a painting she is working on of a green apple with leaves.

보태니컬 아티스트 캐롤 맬론 브라운은 몸을 굽히고서 그녀의 초록 사과를 그리는일에 집중하며 앉아있습니다.

She carefully puts a small amount of paint on one leaf using the “dry brush” method — mixing tiny drops of water with watercolors and then using a paintbrush to draw short, thin lines. She will sit at her desk, painting this leaf for many days to get it just right.

그녀는 조심스럽게 아주 조금의 페인트를 잎하나위에 놓았다. "드라이 브러시"라고 불리는 기법입니다. -작은 방울의 색깔물과 페인팅 붓을 통해 조금씩 얇은 선으로 그리는 것입니다.. 그녀는 그녀의 데스크에 앉아 이 잎사귀들을 똑바로 될때까지 수일동안 그릴 것 입니다. 

While many people might find this boring, for Malone-Brown, creating botanical art is very relaxing. She draws inspiration from her beautiful garden, filled with a variety of plants at her home in Alexandria, Virginia.

많은 사람들이 이작업을 지루하게 생각하지만 멜론 브라운에게는, 보태니컬 아트는 매우 편안한 작업이다. 그녀는 그녀의 아름다운 정원을 통해 영감을 얻습니다. 그녀의 집인 버지니아주 알렌산드리아에 있는 이 정원은 다양한 식물들로 채워져있습니다.

Botanical art combines art with science because each piece must have accurate details.

Malone-Brown’s art is being showcased, along with 45 other pieces, at the U.S. Botanic Garden in Washington. It’s part of a series of botanical art exhibits worldwide. The idea is not only to highlight botanical art but the great diversity of plants.

멜론 브라운의 작품들은 현재 쇼케이스에 전시중입니다. 45개의 작품들은 워싱턴의 보태닉 가든에 전시가 되어있습니다. 이번 전시회는 전세계 보태닉아트 전시 시리즈의 일부입니다. 이 아이디어는 보내티컬아트의 홍보뿐만아니라 다양한 식물들에 대에 알리는 전시회이기도 합니다. 

Malone-Brown’s painting of a Virginia strawberry plant is on display at the U.S. show, white flowers and red strawberries that look good enough to eat. It took her four hours each day for five months to complete the image.

멜론 브라운의 그림인 버지니아 딸기는 미국에서 전시중입니다. 흰 꽃과 붉은 딹기는 보기에도 먹음직스럽습니다. 그녀는 매일 4시간씩 5개월에 걸쳐 이 그림을 완성했습니다. 

Alice Tangerini is the botanical illustrator for the Smithsonian Natural History Museum’s botany department in Washington. For more than four decades, she has been drawing botanical images that scientists use for research.

앨리스 탱져리니는 스미소니언 자연사 박물관의 보내티컬 일러스트레이터입니다. 4년이 넘는 기간동안, 그녀는 과학자들을 위한 보태닉 이미지들을 그렸습니다. 

Tangerini said photos cannot capture details the same way drawings do.

탱져리니는 사진은 그리는 것처럼 모든 디테일을 담아 낼수 없다고 말합니다. 

“They are our best friends,” she joked.  “You truly have to love a plant that you paint because you’re going to spend a lot of time with it!”
