여자 컬링 덕분에 올림픽을 보는 종목이 조금 더 다양 해졌습니다. 저는 이번 동계올림픽을 통해서 컬링의 규칙을 처음으로 이해했습니다. 많은 사람들이 아마 그럴거예요. 단순한듯 하지만 단순하지 않은 오묘함이 많은 종목이었어요. 두뇌싸움과 피지컬 싸움이 공존하는 재미있는 종목이 었습니다. 아직 주변에 컬링을 즐길만 한 곳을 찾기는 쉽지 않은듯 합니다. 아무래도 시설유지에도 많은 비용이 들어 갈테구요. 단순히 올림픽 때문인 줄 로만 알엇더니 컬링은 세계에서 돌풍을 일으키는 스포츠였네요.. 심지어 사막국가인 카타르나 사우디에서도 즐긴다고 합니다. 4월에는 라스베가스에서 열린다고 하는데 우리 영미 라스베가스도 가보겠네요. 오올 부럽습니다.

Curling Ready to Rock the Strip in Las Vegas

컬링 라스베가스 거리를 흔들 준비를 하다. 

They say what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas but when the world's best curlers sweep into Sin City in April, the sport's officials want the world to know.

라스베가스에서 무슨일이 벌어지냐고요? 4월이면 세계의 가장 뛰어난 컬링선수들이 신시티 시내를 쓸어버릴테니 베가스에 있으세요. 스포츠 관계자들은 세계가 이 행사의 개최 소식을 알아주길 바라고있습니다. 

With the world curling championships coming to Las Vegas, the World Curling Federation (WCF) will be taking advantage of the spike in popularity the sport will enjoy coming out of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

세계컬링챕피언쉽이 4월에 라스베가스에서 개최됩니다. 세계컬링연맹(WCF)는 평창동계올림픽을 통해 세계컬링챕피언쉽의 인기가 높아질것을 기대 합니다. 

In contrast to the Olympic youth movement's march toward adrenaline-fueled extreme sports, curling, long the domain of moms and pops and Saturday beer-league tournaments, is suddenly cool.

올림픽의 열기는 아드레날린이 가득한 익스트림 스포츠, 컬링 ( long the domain of moms and pops 이게 도데체 뭐죠..해석이 안되네요 ㅠㅠ) 을 향하는 반면에 토요일의 맥주리그 토너먼트는 갑자기 싸늘했습니다. 

Rockers Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen are rumored to have picked up a curling broom from time to time, bringing new meaning to the term rock 'n' roll.

락스타인 본조비와 부르스 스프링스틴은 컬링 브룸을 잡았다는 루머가 퍼졌습니다. 락앤롤의 새로운 의미를 가져온것이죠.   

And over the last decade, the WCF has watched television viewership increase, with a surge during Olympic years, which has helped to pull in new sponsors, new events and new countries.

그리고 지난 10년간 WCP는 컬링스포츠의 올림픽 특수와 함께 TV 시청자수가 증가해왔음을 확인했습니다. 이는 새로운 국가와 이벤트 그리고 스폰서의 참여를 이끄는데 기여했습니다. 

In order to be included on the full program at the 1998 Nagano Olympics, curling needed to have 30 member nations. Twenty years later, there are 60, including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, with more to come and a growth explosion predicted.

1998년 나가노 올림픽의 종목 편입을 위해 컬링은 30개의 회원국가가 필요했습니다. 20년뒤 카타르와 사우디아라비아를 포함에 60개 국가가 있습니다. 앞으로도 계속 증가할 것으로 예측됩니다. 

"Instead of us having to chase after sponsors, we're finding, at long last, that sponsors are coming to us, which is great," Kate Caithness, the Scottish head of World Curling, said. "We are the fastest-growing winter sport and we're just in a great place.”

“ 우리가 스폰서를 쫒기보다는 결국에는 스폰서가 우리에게 오게 되었습니다. 대단한 일이죠.” 스코들랜드 WCF대표인 케이트는 말했습니다. “우리는 가장 빠르게 성장하는 겨울스포츠 종목입니다. 우리 단지 굉장한 때에 있는것입니다." 

Like every other sport's boss, Caithness has her sights set on China and 1.3 billion potential curlers. Having already established a firm foothold in South Korea and Japan, the WCF will soon begin a major push into China.

다른 스포츠수장들과 마찬가지로 케이트니스도 13억명의 잠재적 컬링선수들이 있을 중국에 주목했습니다. 이미 대한민국과 일본에는 단단히 자리를 잡았죠. WCF는 곧 중국에서도 본격적으로 컬링의 대중화위한 활동을 시작할것입니다.  

With more than 1 million registered curlers, Canada has more people playing the game than the rest of the world combined.

연맹에는 백만명이상의 컬링선수들이 등록된 선수들과 캐나다에서는 나머지 국가를 모두 합친 것보다 많은 선수들이 컬링을 즐기는 사람들이 있습니다.
