It is April Fool’s Day, so someone might play a practical joke on you - a harmless trick for fun.

그날은 만우절입니다. 그래서 누군가 단지 재미를 위해 당신을 놀려먹을수 있습니다. 

Probably the most common definition of “fool” is someone who is silly and, well, foolish.It is very easy to trick a fool.

아마 ‘바보’의 가장 일반적인 정의는 어리석거나 바보스러운 사람을 뜻하죠. 아주 쉽게 속일수 있습니다.

“To fool” can also mean to pretend. If you say, “I was only fooling” that means you are not serious. You are kidding.

“To fool”은 ~척한다 라는 뜻이 될 수 있습니다. ‘I was only fooling’라는 뜻은 심각하지 않다는 뜻입니다. 단지 농담일 뿐이죠.

We often pair “fool” with the verbs “play” and “act” to form the expressions play the fool and act the fool. They both describe someone who is easily tricked or deceived. Or sometimes, we play the fool because we fall deeply in love and cannot think clearly.

우리는 자주 ‘fool’ 과 동사 ‘play’ 그리고 ‘act’와 함께 붙인 표현 ‘play the fool’, ‘act the fool’  을 사용합니다.

There is also a common saying: “A fool and his money are soon parted.”

일상적으로 이렇게 말합니다 “바보와 그의 돈은 금방 사라질것이다.”

If you make a fool of yourself, you do something that makes you look foolish or silly. But making a fool of yourself is better than making a fool of someone else. That is just mean.

만약 당신이 스스로 바보처럼 군다면, 당신은 스스로 바보처럼 보이거나 어리석게 보이는 짓을 하는 것입니다. 하지만 스스로 바보처럼 보이는게 다른사람을 바보로 만드는것보다 낫습니다. 단지 그렇다는거죠. 

Now, if you are fooling yourself, you are unwilling to accept the facts of a situation. In other words, you are in denial.

지금 ,당신이 스스로 바보같다면, 당신은 진실이나 상황을 받아들지 않는것입니다. 다른말로 당신은 거절에 있다는 것이지요.

And, when we pair the word “fool” with “around,” we get an expression that has several meanings. One is to spend time without any purpose. Another meaning is to behave playfully.

그리고 ‘fool’과 ‘around’가 함께 있다면 우리는 여러가지 표현을 얻을 수 있습니다. 그중 하나는 아무 의미없이 시간을 보내는 것이지죠. 또 다른 의미로는 즐겁게 시간을 보내는 것입니다. 

Finally, we often use the word “fool” in warnings to others. For example, “Don’t fool around with that! You will break it.” Or, “Stop fooling around.” And the ever popular, “This is no time to fool around.”

마지막으로, ‘fool’은 종종 경고의 의미로도 쓰입니다. 예를 들어, “그거가지고 장난치지마! 너 그거 깰꺼야”, “바보같이 굴지마”. 그리고 아주 유명한 말이 있습니다. “바보같이 굴기엔 시간이 없다.”
