지난달에 다뤘던 기사중에서 나사가 화성에서의 임무 수행을 위해 요르단의 사막에서 훈련을 수행한다는 내용이 있었습니다. 오늘 기사는 유사한 실험은 이스라엘 과학자들이 수행한다는 내용이네요. 지구에서 화성과 가장 유사한 환경을 찾아 그곳에서 화성에서 필요한 실험을 임상시험 하고있습니다. 스페이스엑스가 화성으로 보낼 로켓을 만들고있고 실제 화성가서 임무를 수행할 사람들이 훈련을 하고 있습니다. 아마도, 10년 안에는 화성에 발을 디디는 지구인이 생길것 같네요.

Scientists Stage Mars Mission in Israeli Desert

이스라엘 사막에서 화성임무 수행

Israeli scientists recently finished an experiment where they practiced living on Mars. The team of researchers created a Martian environment in the Negev Desert, according to Israel’s Science and Technology Ministry.

이스라엘의 과학자들은 최근 화성에서 거주 연습 실험을 마쳤습니다.  이스라엘의 과학기술부에 의하면 연구팀은 네게브 사막에 화성임무를 수행할  거주 환경을 조성했습니다.

Over a period of four days, six participants investigated conditions such as the psychological effects of isolation and how to measure radiation. They also searched for signs of life in the soil.

4년의 기간동안, 6명의 참가자들이 고립에 의한 심리반응과 방사선 복사를 측정하는 방법을 조사했습니다. 그들은 흙에서 생명의 징후를 찾기도 했습니다. 

The experiment was held near the remote town of Mitzpe Ramon, where the area’s landscape and dryness are similar to that of Mars, according to the ministry.

이 실험은 멀리 떨어져있지 않는 마을 '미지페 라몬'에서 행해졌습니다. 과학기술부에 따르면 이곳은 지형과 건조함이 화성과 매우 유사합니다.

The Negev Desert is located east of the Sahara. It is arid, receiving less than 25 centimeters of rain per year. The desert itself has brown rocky mountains with dry riverbeds where plants grow when it rains, and craters. This landscape makes the Negev Desert look and feel similar to Mars.

네게브 사막은 사하라의 동쪽끝에 있습니다. 연간 강우량은 25센티미터에 불과 합니다. 이 사막은 갈색 록키산과 같은 모양과 비가오면 식물이 자라는 마른강줄기, 그리고 분화구 같은 크레이터를 가지고 있습니다. 이 지형은 네게브 사막을 화성과 매우 유사하다고 느끼게 만듭니다. 

According to one Israeli newspaper, the six participants ate food from capsules, lived in confined housing, and wore spacesuits when going out from their pod. The experiment, called the “D-MARS” project, is considered to have been a success.

이스라엘의 한 뉴스에 의하면, 6명의 참가자들은 캡슐로 된 음식을 먹고, 매우 작은 집에서 살고, 기지밖으로 나갈때는 우주복을 입었다고 합니다. 이 실험은 "D-MARS" 프로젝트라고 불리고 현재까지는 매우 성공적이라고 평가 받습니다.
