UN : 플라스틱 사용에 긴급한 조치가 필요

Marking World Environment Day, the United Nations on June 5 named plastic one of the biggest environmental threats facing the world.

세계환경의날을 맞아, 국제연합은 6월5일 플라스틱이 가장 환경을 위협하는 것들중 하나라고 명명했습니다.  

The report, Single-Use Plastics: A Roadmap for Sustainability, said while government regulation on the use of plastic has made some impact on reducing waste, it is not enough, and more urgent action is needed.

'일회용 플라스틱: 지속가능성을 위한 로드맵' 의 보고서에서, 정부는 플라스틱의 사용을 규제가 쓰레기 감축에 있어 또다른 문제를 만들었다고 했습니다. 이것으로는 불충분합니다. 좀더 긴급한 조치가 필요합니다. 

“Microplastics in the seas now outnumber stars in our galaxy,” U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres said in a speech. "If present trends continue, by 2050 our oceans will have more plastic than fish.”

"바다위의 마이크로플라스틱이 우리 은하의 별보다 많습니다"  U.N의 비서고나 안토니오는 연설에서 말했습니다. "만약 이트렌드 대로라면 , 2050년까지 우리 바다에는 물고기보다 많은 플라스틱을 보게 될겄입니다."

The report noted that, by some estimates, as many as 5 trillion plastic bags are used worldwide every year.

몇몇 예측에 따르면 서계에서 매년 5조개이상의 비닝봉투를 사용한다고 보고서에서 강조했습니다. 

While acknowledging that fighting plastic waste is different for every country, the U.N. report suggested 10 steps that policymakers can follow, including use of more eco-friendly alternatives to plastics and the promotion of reusable products.

국가들이 서로다른 플라스틱감축 전쟁에 나서고 있을때, U.N.보고서는 10가지 단계별로 따를수있는 정책을 제안했습니다. 여기에는 친환경 대체재를 사용하고 재사용가능한 제품을 촉진하는 내용이 포함되었습니다. 

A 2017 report by the Ocean Conservancy said China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam are dumping more plastic than the rest of the world combined.

2017년 Ocean Conservancy의 보고서에 따르면 중국,인도네시아,필리핀,태국 그리고 베트남에서 사용하는 플라스틱이 나른 모든 국가를 합친것 보다 많다고 합니다. 

But the group warned that the problem is not Asia's alone. It noted the United States throws away more than 33 million tons of plastic, of which less than 10 percent is recycled.

하지만 이 그룹은 플라스틱문제는 아시아만의 문제가 아니라고 경고합니다. 미국에서는 3천만톤이상의 플라스틱이 매년 버려지고 10%이하만이 재활용된다고 강조했습니다. 

For years, environmentalists have warned of the deadly effect plastic waste has on sea life. Recently, a pilot whale died in Thailand after struggling for five days to stay alive.Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources announced that the whale had 80 plastic bags in its stomach.

지난 몇년간, 환경옹호가들은 플라스틱쓰레기가 바다생태계에 죽음의 영향을 준다고 경고해왔습니다. 최근 거두고래하나가 태국 연안에서 5일간 고통스러워하다가 죽었습니다. 태국 해양부와 해변자원은 고래의 위에서 80여개의 플라스틱봉투를 발견했다고 발표했습니다.
