Nearly every week we hear news about the latest successes and failures of driverless vehicles. But we hear little about how other industries are developing that kind of technology.

최근 우리는 자율주행자동차의 성공과 실패에 관한 많은 뉴스를 듣습니다. 하지만 같은 기술을 이용한 다른 산업에 대한 소식은 조금 적게 듣습니다.  

One industry heavily involved in researching and developing artificial intelligence is agriculture. Companies are experimenting with high-tech tools that can help farmers save time and money, while reducing environment-harming chemicals.

인공지능 기술을 이용한 연구분야중 가장 많이 관계된 분야는 바로 농업입니다. 회사들은 하이테크기술을 이용해 농부들의 시간과 비용을 줄일 수 있도록 하고있습니다. 이와 동시에 환경에 해로운 화학물질의 사용도 줄이고 있습니다.  

One of the companies is ecoRobotix of Switzerland. It created a robot that uses AI and cameras to identify all plants on a farm. The robot has four wheels to carry it through the fields in search of weeds. Computer-controlled arms then spray the weeds with small amounts of herbicide.

ecoRobotix는 스위스에 있는 이러한 회사중 하나입니다. AI와 카메라를 이용해 농장의 모든 식물을 인식합니다. 이 로봇은 4개의 바퀴를 통해 움직이며 잡초를 찾아냅니다. 컴퓨터로 움직이는 팔은 잡초에게 적은 양의 농약을 분사합니다. 

Company officials say the robot can fully operate on its own for up to 12 hours a day while being powered by the sun. It uses the same kind of technology used to guide driverless vehicles. A farmer can also control the robot through a smartphone.

이 로봇은 전적으로 스스로 움직이며 햇빛이 공급되는 12시간의 낮시간동안 동작한다고 회사는 말했습니다. 이것은 자율주행자동차와 같은 종류의 기술을 사용합니다. 하지만 농부는 스마트폰으로도 로봇을 조종 할 수 있습니다.

The co-founder of ecoRobotix, Aurelien Demaurex, says the farm robot can kill weeds with 20 times less herbicide than traditional methods. This is because the system uses exactly the right amount of herbicide in exactly the right place to kill the weeds.

ecoRobotix의 공동 창업자인 Aurelien Demaurex는 농사로봇이  전통 방식보다 20배이상의 적은 농약 사용량으로 잡초를 제한다고 말했습니다. 그 이유는 잡초를 죽이기위해 정확한 사용량과 정확한 위치에 분사하기 때문입니다.

Currently, farmers spread weed killers over massive areas to destroy unwanted plants.This method led to a huge industry of genetically modified crop products created to resist herbicides. Genetically modified food crops have caused much debate over the years.

현재, 농부들은 농약을 광범위하게 살포하여 잡초들을 제거 하고 있습니다.  이 방법은 농약에 저항성을 가지게 하기위해 거대한 유전자 변형 농작물 산업을 이끌었습니다. 하지만 유전자변형농작물은 수년동안 많은 논란이 있었습니다. 

Aurelien Demaurex says the ecoRobotix system can revolutionize farming by greatly reducing chemical usage, while operating without additional equipment or people.

Aurelien Demaurex는 ecoRobotix시스템이 추가 장비나 인력투입 없이 농약사용량을 크게 줄이면서 농업의 혁명이 될것이라고 말합니다.
