Carson Kropfl is an inventor, business owner and environmental activist. He enjoys the excitement of surfing, and he's also a skateboarder. Kropfl is a very hard-working 12-year-old.

You heard right. The San Clemente, California, boy just completed seventh grade. His story shows that necessity really is the mother of invention.

Carson had enjoyed skating for years. He liked to use his skateboard to go places, including school. But over time, he grew frustrated that he had no place to put his board once he arrived.

As a student, he could not change the size of his locker. But he realized he might be able to change the shape of his skateboard.

“I have a skateboard company called Lockerboard and what I do is, I take recycled skateboard decks and reshape them to fit inside backpacks and lockers.”

"저는 '락커보드'라는 스케이트 보드 회사를 가지고있습니다. 제가하는 것은 재활용 스케이트 보드 덱을 가져와서 백팩이나 락커에 들어가는 사이즈의 모양으로 바꾸는 것입니다."

Carson first made himself a shorter skateboard in the shape of a square.

칼슨이 직접만든 첫번째 스케이트 보드는 짧은 사각형모양의 스케이트 보드였습니다. 

“But then my parents told me I had to clean and do chores to pay for my surf lessons.But I hate to clean, so I asked them if I could try selling my Lockerboards instead.”

"하지만 제 부모님은 제가 청소를 깨끗이 해놓고 집안일을 한다면 서핑레슨비용을 내준다고 했습니다. 하지만 전 청소가 싫었어요. 그래서 대신에 락커보드를 팔아보면 안되겠냐고 물었습니다."

His parents not only said yes, they agreed to help him make it happen by buying him the best tools for creating skateboards.

그의 부모는 허락 뿐만 아니라 그가 스케이트 보드를 더 잘 만들수 있도록 최적을 도구까지 사주었습니다. 

Carson made his first sales to his classmates. Within months, he had an agreement with a manufacturer. The young man says he has now sold about 700 skateboards in under two years of operation.

칼슨은 첫번째로 그의 학급친구들에게 팔았습니다. 한달뒤 그는 제조회사랑 계약을 맺었습니다. 어린 소년은 2년동안 지금 약 700개의 스케이트 보드가 팔렸다고 말했습니다. 

His skateboards come in a number of shapes and designs, and each one costs around $100.
