후지산 등산 시즌 시작!

Climbing season has officially begun at Mt. Fuji with the opening of all remaining trails on Tuesday. A popular attraction for both locals and tourists, Japan’s tallest mountain takes 6 to 8 hours to climb and is open to the public from now until September 10th.

화요일에 등산로 개방과 함께 공식적인 후지산의 등산 시작되었습니다. 현지인들과 투어리스트들에게 모두 인기 있는 어트랙션인 후지산은 등산에 6~8시간 가량 소요 됩니다. 등산로의 개방은 지금부터 9월 10일까지입니다. 

The Yoshida Trail was the first to open on July 1. Over 100 people spent the night at a hut about halfway up the mountain in order to reach the top by dawn. The group cheered as they watched the sunrise, celebrating the start of the climbing season.

요시다등산로는 7월 1일 처음 개방되었습니다. 100명이 넘는 사람들이 새벽에서 정상에 오르기 위해 산 중턱의 산장에서 밤을 보냈습니다. 

The mountain is 3,776 meters tall and was visited by over 284,000 climbers last year.Visitors are asked to donate 1,000 yen (about $9) to support the maintenance of the trails. About 52 million yen was collected from 112,200 people last year alone.

이 산은 해발 3,776미터 높이 이며 작년에는 약 284,000명의 등산객들이 방문했습니다. 등산을 위해서는 1000엔가량 징수 했습니다.  그 기금은 등산로 정비에 사용됩니다. 작년에만도 약 112,200명의 등산객들로 부터 5200만엔의  기금이 모였습니다. 

Mt. Fuji is a national symbol of Japan and features on the 1,000 yen bill. It’s also an active volcano that last erupted in 1707. No one knows when that might happen again.

후지산은 천엔지폐에 등장하는 일본의 상징입니다. 이 산의 화산은 여전히 활동하고 있으며 마지막 폭발은 1707년도에 있었습니다. 또 언제 폭발할지는 아무도 모릅니다. 

In 2013, Mt. Fuji was declared a UNESCO cultural heritage site. According to the BBC, this is because it has "inspired artists and poets and been the object of pilgrimage for centuries."

2013년 유네스코는 후지산을 자연문화유산으로 지정했습니다. BBC에 따르면, "많은 예술가들과 시인들에게 영감을 주고 성지순례의 대상이 되어왔기" 때문이라고 했습니다. 

At first, Mt. Fuji was considered for status as a natural heritage site, but did not receive it. This was partly due to the large amount of garbage being illegally dumped there. Since 2013, the government has put more focus on protecting its natural beauty.

처음에는 후지산을 자연유산으로만 고려했습니다 하지만 받아들여지지 않았습니다. 많은 쓰레기들이 버려질 가능성이 있었기 때문입니다. 2013년 정부는 자연의 아름다움을 보호하기위해 촛점을 맞추었습니다.
